A little bit about me
Hi, my name is Erin Herle (“Hurley”). I’m a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). I graduated June 2023 from the University of Western States with a Master of Science in Sport and Performance Psychology and opened my own private practice called Train Ya Mind.
I dedicated my 20’s to the pursuit of being the best jiu jitsu athlete I could be. I achieved a black belt, many competition medals, started my own mental health charity called #SubmitTheStigma, and spent some time in MMA.
During the pandemic I decided to change my path to being a support role in coaching and teaching. I found the CMPC certification as a way to nurture my talents and interests and help others. I chose the non-clinical route of applied sport psychology because I feel it best matches my values of authenticity, vulnerability, and compassion.
My belief is that mental well-being is essential to optimal performance so I aim to help my clients sustainably shine as their authentic selves.
THEORETICAL ORIENTATION
I am an evidence-based practitioner with a master’s degree in sport and performance psychology. I developed my own theoretical orientation towards performance excellence called the theory of authentic performance that builds the foundation from which I coach mental skills with my clients. I believe you must know and like yourself if you want to be successful. For this I guide my clients through a process of self-reflection. This involves taking inventory of your strengths, values, and resources in order to meet the demands of your performance domain. My practice is grounded in research with a focus on applied sport psychology in the combat sports domain.
COACHING PHILOSOPHY
My approach to mental performance coaching is influenced by my personal experiences as a combat sports athlete. I became an athlete at the age of twenty with no prior sport experience. I was diagnosed with ADHD not long after and have since learned to navigate success as a neurodivergent athlete. I use a science-based approach that involves self-reflection rooted in theoretical underpinnings. I take a whole-person approach to coaching that acknowledges we are more than just our performance roles. I care what you think and where you come from so that I can meet you where you are. I say, “come as you are” and we will collaborate on your journey of excellence.
ACADEMIC PORTFOLIO
I graduated in June 2023 from the University of Western States with a Master of Science in Sport and Performance Psychology. I’ve gathered my most impactful assignments that I feel show my best work and reflected on their importance. This academic portfolio is a culmination of two years learning about myself and the field of applied sport psychology. These artifacts will give you insight into what theories and techniques I have developed for working as a mental performance coach as well as the research that has shaped my knowledge. Each piece reflects the process of my development and my dedication to becoming a well-informed and authentic consultant.
